malaysia trip june 2005

interesting pix from my trip to kuala lumpur, capital of malaysia.

-----

interior of the malaysian international airport in kuala lumpur.

-----

this is a billboard ad for a flat screen tv with the brand name WEGA .... written in malay language.
i am not sure if many of u know that the malay and indonesian language has some similarities. both languages came from the same root, but later on each got developed with different pace.

so here is the literal translation of the ad (remember this is written in malay):

sesetengah benda lebih elok rata seperti wega = half of it is prettier when it is flat like wega

tv skrin biasa ternyata tewas oleh wega = regular tv screens actually is dead by wega

i am not saying this to make fun of the malay language, that is NOT my intention at all. i am just writing what i saw.

-----

my bro in his newly-bought BATIK shirt ..... and it is VERY unusual for him to wear batik shirts. the reason being, is that we were to enter a casino on GENTING highland, the mountainous area outside kuala lumpur. and since the men were only allowed to enter with their collared shirts, therefore .... such is my brother's situation.

-----

one of the pics on the casino's billboard. i thought it was so damn funny how they covered the eyes of the winners. and unfortunately, after taking this pic ... i almost got dragged into the security room. but luckily ... i got out of it just fine.

The picture is only to show that people actually can win in that place and at the same time keep the privacy of the winner..
I can imagine if they actually show the face, that person will be swarmed with mass media and people asking donations.. Not to mention insurance agencies.
You know what's weird?? Soon, there'll be 2 gambling places in Singapore.. I'm pretty sure it'll be filled with Malaysians, while the one in Genting (Malaysia), it'll be filled with Singaporeans.. Why you ask??
Well, since the majority of people in Malaysia are Moslem, they have a strong believe that one can't gamble. No matter what religious you are, as long as you're a citizen of Genting, you won't be allowed to gamble. U know that it's friggin hard to win at Genting since it doesn't really follow an international standard in terms of service??? (they ripped you off so bad and fooled you like a donkey in the middle of a pile of doodie).. Hehehe.. I said Doodie.. In short, even though you win, they won't give you your money. How do I know this? My dad once went there and played the jackpot machine. He got a jackpot. One of the employee came, turned off the machine and left. He said, "Machine broken."
While the majority of people are not Moslem in Singapore, the government has a very strict rule that the gambling place is only for foreigner. However, a Singaporean can also gamble, with a S$100 (around Rp. 600,000 or US$ 62,50) entrance fee.. Thus, Singaporeans run to Genting while Malaysians run to Singapore.
Just on a little side note, it's NOT WEGA. It's VVEGA, the 2 Vs crossed over each other so it looks like a W. It's also pronounced "VEGA". Sorry.. just a hard habit to let go 'bout Electronic stuffs... That thing is a sweet piece of TV.......

so vvega it is then .... it is ok ... habits r hard to let go a lot of times .... understandable dude hehe ..... thanks for stopping by here ... never thought u would .... so i can assume your compie is upgraded now??

no offence, but it's written "Wega" but pronounced "Vega", because it was originated from German.
"WEGA was a german audio/video manufacturer that became a subsidiary of Sony, and was eventually swallowed entirely and is now used as a model name by Sony, i.e. Sony WEGA TV's."
