my strange lebaran holiday dream

it went like this .....

i remember i was still living in my grandma's old house. and i was living in one of the rooms on the second floor facing the narrow street. the weather was nice and bright that time but suddenly it got so dark all of a sudden. thanks to the high floor above, i was able to look out the window to see what is going on. in the distance, in front one of the tall buildings, i saw a huge sideway tornado (dont ask me why it was sideway -_-) sucking everything that was on its path. the weird thing was i was not panicking but felt a bit anxious .... but not until this alien spaceship passed by our house in front of my window. before i hid myself under my bed .... in a glance, i remember i saw a bright tongue-like flexible moving sensor thing that looked like a thin ribbon floating in the air. i wonder what it was for .... but later on the floor below me, i heard a sorta spaceship-like sound that (i think) was pulling a screaming someone into the ship. i felt the floor becoming warmer than usual. wonder if it was due to the heat from the ship's sensor. i heard the ship passing our house and moving on to our neighbor's house. i was really afraid until i curled up really tight under my bed. think about 10 minutes has passed. i was a bit relieved to think that ship would not come back to this neighborhood again.

WRONG!!

the moment i stood out of my bed ..... i saw that ship right in front of my room. i was so shocked and i had no time to scream when the ship out of nowhere decided to pull me into it with its warm sensor. i was standing still while being sucked in i remember. i dont even remember the interior of the ship due to my fear. i dont know how but we ended up in the bad crummy side of jakarta. the ship was flying pretty low so i could see what was going on outside. i saw lots of farm animals like cows, goats, chickens etc and then i saw a few humans with super long vertical heads walking around as if nothing happened. i freaked out and thought that maybe the aliens would preform some weird brain exchange experiments on me. perhaps exchanging my brain with some of the cows' or goats at the same time O___O??!!! i was freaking out. i remember seeing a lot of abducted victims who got dropped off from the ship to be experimented on. the weird thing was i was not dropped off. think the alien flew off and somehow he returned me to my room.

and how did this whole thing end??

u can just draw your own conclusion. i was really tired that day thus i dreamed.

OLD SCHOOL GREATNESS!

nothing can beat that really!

anyway ..... i dont think everyone else in the entire world out there would know that now .... everyone in the land of jakarta, indonesia is stuck amidst a two-week long holiday. while my bro was supposed to be busy packing the day away for his bali road trip yesterday, instead .... with our dear cousin Agung, decided to download midi files of our old old ooold favorite video games. as in *sega genesis/mega drive* old!! he downloaded tracks from the "sonic" series, "streets of rage", "golden axe", etc. AND THEN ..... they got carried away and started downloading our great ol' favorite sega genesis games along with its appropriate emulator. so they started the video game frenzy with "streets of rage 1"

OOOO what fun and nostalgic that was i was almost brought to tears (tears of happiness u moron :P!), but not until our cousin accidentally closed the application .... when we were only a few minutes away from the final boss on stage 8. my bro (and me, the audience) was pretty crushed!

then .... ON with "golden axe" .....

My Birthday Gift from the Japanese Government

The first part of it was the news I got a few weeks ago from Japan Foundation, that my maqita/manga that's been published in SPLASH Maqita Magazine (http://www.sevenartland.com), Sang Sayur, actually got into the nominees list for Japan's recent International Manga Contest, run by Mr. Aso Tarou, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Last week, I got a phone call from the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta and they requested me to visit them so they could explain to me the format of the ceremony they were going to throw for me on August 1 @ 3 pm. I was completely shocked to hear this, since I am not exactly the 1st prize winner or one of the runner ups. I was honored to meet the Director/Counselor of Cultural & Educational Affairs, Kato san, his assistant, Kaji san, along with the great Embassy staff. We had a wonderful yet brief meeting. So after that, my entire week was filled with non-stop phone calls from the Embassy, them wanting me to write a speech and resume (for the journalists/reporters) etc etc. Because of that, I couldn't find enough time to rest so I could recover from my bad cold. Bad as in super stuffy nose and throat full of muccus (gross huh :P?) haha. Talk about a bad time for being sick >_<. But I figure it was all for a good cause, so I gladly overlooked my sickness.

So here comes D day! August 1, 2007 @ 3 pm. At the Japanese Embassy, Jakarta, Indonesia.

The guests included a few members of my family, SPLASH members, Machiko sensei, a number of friends (Felix actually gotta speed all the way from the airport to the Embassy due to his delayed flight from Bali @_@), Jakarta-based Japan Foundation's Director and Assistant Director, plus journalists/reporters alike. The SPLASH members were one of the first ones to appear in the ceremony hall. They got me a nice self-arranged flower along with a super cute and inspiring greeting card they all wrote for me. It was a nice surprise indeed. If you all were imagining this was some kind of 100+ attendant ceremony, you were wrong hehe. The ceremony was small, but I was told that there were more and more journalists/reporters popping into the room as the ceremony went on.

Before it started, I was asked to seat myself next to the Japanese Ambassador, Ebihara Shin. Here is the brief rundown of the ceremony:

- Opening speech by the Embassy's MC
- The introduction speech by the Japanese Ambassador, Ebihara Shin
- The nomination certificate reading by Ebihara san
- The certificate hand-over by Ebihara san. We were swarmed by journalists, reporters, family members and friends alike.
- My speech. Beforehand, they asked me to say a few things in Japanese, and so I did. Then I proceeded with the rest of the speech in Indonesian.
- Drawing demo. They asked me to draw a few of my characters before the audience. A big white board was provided. On the left hand side they clipped a 60x90 cm paper for me to draw on, while on the right hand side they displayed my xeroxed Sang Sayur pages and my colored illustrated Sang Sayur postcard. Again, swarmed by journalists, reporters, family members and friends.
- Extra announcement (my announcement regarding my birthday the day after, August 2). Ebihara san actually started asking me questions regarding myself and my work in English. His English was pretty good.
- Interview time by the media. I was told there would be media present at the ceremony, but I'd NEVER EVER thought there would be THAT many mainstream media surrounding this sick girl and bombarding her with questions @_@. I am just bad when it comes to being interviewed haha >_<

Afterwards, after more photo taking sessions and etc, I did not even have any time to have lunch after the ceremony. Sooo~~~ hungry, I just grabbed myself a cheese pastry and a few glasses of water. Then we all exited the Embassy.

The next day, August 2, apparently my article appeared in KOMPAS, one of the widely read Indonesian newspaper.

june 8-18: away to singapore

It all began with a stupid doctor visit last month. I'd been bloated the week before and no matter what medicine and what I did, the bloat just wouldn't go away. Anyway, went to the doctor. He did a USG check on my stomach, and indeed my stomach was filled with air (maybe the aircon -__-;;), but that is not it. He checked my lower stomach also and he found a 6 cm long cyst attached to one of my ovaries. He said it has been growing there for years and years, thus the humongous cyst. He suggested that I have it removed as soon as possible. If not, I will run the high risk of losing one of my ovaries. I was shocked to hear the news. Remember this doctor was NOT a gynecologist.

So the day after we went to a real gynecologist, ran another check on my ovaries, and he pretty much said the same thing. Later on the cyst may turn into something called endometriosis and he said it also needed to be taken out soon. I don't think you know this but a lot of doctors in Jakarta are known to be the commercialized types, the ones who is MORE eager to cut their patients open for the money >.< Suspecting he might one of *those* doctors, we might need to fly to Singapore to have a double check.

When I am flying there? June 8-18 (let's hope the doctor doesn't require me to extend my stay) ... we have made an appointment with an American doctor based there, BUT her line is FULL until freakin' October O_O. So wish us luck on our journey. Let's hope this thing doesn't pop out on me before our Singapore trip.

Btw, it is very normal for Jakarta people to have doctor's visits all the way in Singapore, it is only 1,5 hour away by airplane.

Yesterday me and 4 other SPLASH members were invited to hold a manga characterization workshop in Universitas Indonesia (aka UI) all the way in Depok, close to Bogor, the very south part of Jakarta. While waiting for the live singing before us to end, they offered the audience to jump onstage and sing Do As Infinity's "Fukai Fukai Mori."

SO I jumped in! Boy was it fun, I miss karaoke a lot >__<

HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY TO MACHIKO MANGA SCHOOL!

Last night me and everyone else connected to Machiko Manga School were invited to their anniversary celebration at this cozy traditional Indonesian restaurant, Sampan Matsuda Sentra. It was located on Jalan Teuku Cik Ditiro 2 no. 1. The Indonesian "kuring" seafood cuisine and traditional-themed interior was pretty nice but what really topped off the entire evening was the fact that they had a number of Indonesian dance performances during the meals. It was pleasant and "definitely" lively. Eating, drinking (no alcohol involved!), dancing and playing angklung???!!! How did those last 2 get in?

What happened was after the dance performances, the dancers went off stage to offer their guests an opportunity to learn the Jaipong (Sundanese) and dangdut (dangdut IS the music of my country indeed :P) dance. Thus I got dragged onstage, the same male dancer asked me twice to go onstage and dance with him. Anyway it was real fun, after missing out on a lot of those gym and club visits ... suppose it was a great change of pace. We had a ball indeed, and unfortunately a few of my friends had those onstage performances on record -___-;; Potential blackmail items! BAD BAD news for me!!

So it was great and pleasant. Never thought playing angklung could be so much fun ^__^

this is my student's first digital illustration. after all these months, my one-and-only technologically challenged student FINALLY found something she enjoys doing the most on the computer. Digital coloring!!!! as for the rest, aka scanning/editing, etc .... she could ask someone else to do it for her (i quoted this directly from her). and YES she also LOVES tablets! her tablet has become her friend XD. if only words can express how proud i am of her accomplishment!

This seems to be another situation your out-sized expectations have created. If you're feeling more fizzle than sizzle, it' time to reevaluate what prospects you have. Thank goodness you saw this now rather than later. And I can guarantee your next Valentine's Day will be more sizzling than this year's. For Pisces people, beware of lost wallets and cellphones! Don't misplace them and keep your belongings to yourselves at all time :P

my most rewarding moment

hello everyone, thanks for stopping by. sorry i have been real bad with updating my blog these days >__<. BUT! i have something to tell u. i should have written this last week but just never got around to doing it. anyway here it is!

i have been teaching my two precious students how to use photoshop cs2 program since three weeks ago. scanning, editing images, putting text onto images, coloring, so on and so forth ... all the basic stuff. all this time i have been worried that i have burned them out with all the details i have taught them, thus discouraging them @__@.

HOWEVER things seemed to be different in this particular class XD XD!!
i was teaching both of them how to color, pick colors, edit colors, pick and custom-make their own brushes and erasers etc. and from then on, it was just sooo great to see their progresses. one student just couldn't stop admiring how amazing the program is, not to mention that u can do digital coloring that ends up looking like any other manual marker pieces. this student was IN AWE big time! the other student was also impressed by the fact that her classmate managed to finish coloring her illustration within one and a half hour ON HER OWN. it was a very rewarding and prideful experience for me indeed hehe, and guess now i know how awesomely rewarding it can be for a teacher to see her students progressing. and remember, this student NEVER used photoshop, computer and tablet before for coloring or anything PERIOD. this particular student was the technologically-challenged type. so it was even MORE rewarding to me. i just LOVE my students ^__^!!

*a long sigh* ..... life is beautiful that way :P

my toothpaste war

selama ini keliatannya gua menganggap remeh promosi2 produk2 baru yg disisipin di majalah2, tapi bbrp bulan yg lalu gua akhirnya telah menjadi salah satu korban dari ribuan korban lainnya. di dalam majalah FEMALE yg gua langganin, ada sisipan odol pepsodent terbaru. biasanya kl gua ada gini2an, gua ga bkl pake dan bkl dikasihin ke nyokap ato siapa aja buat coba. tapi di hari itu .... entah kenapa gua KEPINCUT buat nyoba itu odol.

malamnya di wastafel sesudah ngebasahin sikat gigi, gua peletin itu odol pepsodent baru di atasnya. gasak gosok gasak gosok dstnya! dan VOILA!!!!! hasilnya bener2 ga seperti yg gua kira!! hasilnya bener2 memuaskan! hasilnya emang beda dari odol gel close up ijo gua yg udah dengan setianya gua pake dari wkt sd sampe sekarang, tapi yg ini ternyata telah menopangkan close up.

maaf kl ini tiba2 udah jadi iklan pepsodent ato apa .... tapi keliatannya di hari yg nista itu .... close up telah kehilangan salah satu konsumen setianya. oh betapa kejamnya persaingan di dunia yg nestapa ini!

i saw this in the news last week that the latest trend in manhattan now is to have a bunch of guys hanging out together casually in a place where they will sit in circle, knit, chat and drink beer. but they were still in their regular manly outing outfits as if they were going out for a drink and stuff. no sissy stuff at all here, and they r all straight mind u! because of this there has been a lot of knitting clubs outbreak in the city.

.... or should i say super WEIRD dreams!

but anyway i am gonna type this real quick before i have forgotten about it:

1. i dreamed about my 2 best friends in the US. sun and anthony. for some weird reason we were having an indoor picnic inside one of our school cafetarias. we ate together, laughed together and talked about nonsense all the time. for some reason sun's hair was still short and dyed (unlike now, black and long). she brought her usual huge black canson sketchbook. i was gonna request those 2 to make some kind of fanart for me .... BUT I GOT UP! this is really pissing me off!!!!! we didnt even get to do anything T_T

2. i was reading a really cute nicely-designed colorful children's book inside this really big casino (in the US), actually it wasnt even in a casino but it was at the kitchen of one of the casinos so the place looked like a huge factory but not so noisy. i was really into my book until i passed by brad pitt. he was in a pair of jeans and a yellow pullover summer sweater over a white shirt. he was in the middle of talking to someone at the moment, but as i passed him by ... he deliberately turned to me and gave me a big smile. as strange as that might be, i didnt pay attention to him since i thought he may have mistaken me for someone else. another weird thing was as i kept walking, he was also walking not too far beside me ... and with another big smile on his face. as if he was really after me O__O!!! go figure! then i thought to myself .... have we ever met before? but i stood over a bridge to read the book i had, surprisingly he stopped and stood next to me, but not too close. he pointed at the book and said, "i remember reading one of those books when i was a kid. it was great!" i replied to his remark but dont really remember what it was. ANOTHER weird thing was after talking for a bit, he came up to me, hugged me and pecked me on my lips ... as if we had known each other for a long time (OR as if we were *dating* ... that freaked me out!). he decided to take me somewhere for a lunch, but suddenly we were crossing an empty road in jakarta. we saw many oncoming cars in a distance, and as the cars came on to us fast .... we sprint across the road .... and

MY MOM WOKE ME UP through the phone next to me!

GRAAAAA~~~!!!! wasnt that just annoying or what?? i tried going back to sleep again to see if it would go on, but it wouldnt. this really sucks, because i dont think i even like brad pitt! so why him of ALL people!? if it were branden fraser, life would be much better. but i gotta admit though .... mr. pitt had a great smile that could light up the entire world.

now u can laugh all u want >.<
and let me tell u that i DO NOT dream about celebrities very often!
because i think it is just cheesy period :P

animes & mangas i have been following ...

as far as animes, damn them animax is evil! EVIL!! ever since i was sick 2 weeks ago i have never watched tv. but even after i recovered i just couldnt stop myself from watching a few of the cool series the channel aired T__T. u can check out what the channel is all about here. despite this curse, i also have other series i gotta finish T___T. the animes i have been watching on animax are as followed:

- samurai 7 (been watching it here and there, and because it is NOT dubbed)
- tsukikage ran (dubbed, but just watched it for memory's sake)
- galaxy railways (been watching it here and there & dubbed, but just couldnt take my eyes from it T_T)
- zz gundam (NOT dubbed, been watching it sorta regulary. the weird chemistry of roux and glemmy just GOT me!! and finally i sorta knew who camille is hehe :P)

that is for animes .... and here r the mangas i have started reading recently (all highly recommended XD!).

a few weeks ago i started taking japanese private lessons (did i even write this sentence correctly O_O?) ... and boy those times back in college were really coming back to me.

kyoko sensei, my fellow classmates, the 'japanese for busy people' text book (i dont even remember if we have ever use the second volume of the book, since i could only find the first volume one) ... and (the best part of the whole learning process) the awesome-yet-tacky-and-innocent videos they showed in classes for better and quicker learning. in the past it used to be BIJII san (the mascot character of the book), along with Smith san, Tanaka san and etc.

while now in this institution (jakarta communication center), since we used a different textbook (minna no nihongo), the characters in the book (and the videos) have changed to .... Santos san (the Brazillian man), Maria san (Santos san no okusan), Yamada san, Yoshida san, Suzuki san, Tanaka san (he is still there but apparently played by different person -__-;;), and *drum roll* .... MILLER san ... the new yorker who apparently had been strangely cold throughout the video, a total dead pan compared to his friendly Japanese counterparts. most of the time u will see his speaking partners smilling while speaking to him, as for Miller san .... dead cold as ice as his robotic voice pronounced every word. it was just hillarious .... me and my tutor had fun laughing at some of the great antics those characters pulled off, whether they realized it or not.

so after all those lessons, starting today i am on a beginner level 3 student. and after this level, there r still a lot of levels i have to go through in order to be fluent. well i just have to patient then ....

and yesterday, taking the lesson while coming down with a bad cold, sore throat and a minor headache .... was not too bad since throughout yesterday we were just reviewing all the lesssons we have learned on video tapes. it was a video day thank god ^__^

hello peeps hello :P

i am now back in jakarta ... back home from my 2 month trip to the US and Europe.
i dont know if this has ever happened to u .... or something u have experienced before ... but after months away from home ... coming back home felt weird. like as if u have been thrown into hot water, and a lot of things at home dont seem so familiar anymore. i have forgotten about some things, like where i put some of my things, how my bathroom has its own little water spray thingy on the side of the toilet (u know what i am talking about right? the thing u use to wash yourself after your deeds :P ... but anyway in the US or europe there r NO such things ... coming back home to find it next to my toilet was kinda weird), how my studio looks like, how my FREAKIN' monitor looks like (forgot which WALLPAPER i had on before i left) .... and so on and so on.

felt like i have landed in another planet ... so familiar but not really .... kinda like twilight zone haha. but GAH!! forget about my babbling!! dont know what i am talking about ... at this point my brain has gone to comma due to my heavy jetlag syndrome ... but anyway the news is i am back in the city safely. for those of u who knows my number ... u can feel free to call me or text message me. and once i have gone through hundreds and hundreds of pics i have taken during my trip .... i will be sure to post them all up ... or even post up a link of them up here .... so u guys can feel free to check them out and comment on them ^___^

.... i got from my friends. they came up with this SUPER idea for pleasing someone on their birthday .... in a very special unique way.
unique enough that i will never forget it!

they gave me random little gifts literally put within a kinokuniya plastic bag. and since i am 26 this year, they numbered each of the item from 1 to 26. let me see if i still remember all of them in order >.<

days before my birthday, mom asked for my entire contact list in my cell ... and her excuse is that so whenever she needed to contact my friends, she will know their numbers. at first i totally didnt buy it, but then i decided to digress. until August 2 arrived, before the party started at 7 pm ... she has been taking me to random places ... with the excuse of wanting to get a present for the 2nd birthday girl of the day, my cousin pamela. unfortunately an hour before that, a friend text massaged me telling me she could NOT make it to my birthday party!!! and i am just .... O____O!!! THEN another girl called me asking me where i was and if i were having some kind of surprise party!!! and i just completely went .... @___@!!! @O@ ..... WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON??? it is not like the spoiler i got the day before was enough for me, but now THIS!! coming from TWO people hahah!! well i just decided to play along. however, as soon as i got to my aunt's office's function room ... i was EVEN MORE SURPRISED by the fact that besides my entire family gracing my party with their presence .... but ALSO MY FRIENDS from ALL MY circle of friends O___O!!!

i almost passed out in front of the crowd haha ..... but gotta say ... that party would come down as one of the most memorable birthday parties i have had so far! thanks to mom, grandma, and my entire family who played along and made this party possible!! so everyone partied until midnight ... eating, drinking, eating, karaoke, drinking, etc!!

btw i came down with a cold that day T_T

i cant believe that last night i was dreaming about my man, brendan fraser. it was the FIRST time too! and u thought when u totally idolize someone, u would dream about him/her all the time (or every night).

last night we watched the movie from 10-12 am! and previously i had an-hour tennis session ... it has been a year since the last time i played ... but anyway after tennis i got a little headache ... not too serious so i didnt heed it! but NOT until we started watching the movie. we sat on the G row and unbeknownst to me, right above us were the almighty aircons blowing their mighty chill right unto our heads ... ESPECIALLY my head! it got sooo cold until my not-too-serious headache turned into a huge one. we were watching 'war of the worlds', and i realized there were some gore and bloody (as in blood pools, etc) images in it ... usually these type of images in movies dont really bother me ... but NOT this time around when i had a thousand hammers pounding inside my head! i *nearly* puked but luckily i could still control myself.

after the movie, people said i looked really pale ... and i had to digress from driving everyone home. dont wanna risk anyone's (especially my aunt who is 5-6 months pregnant) lives hey???

t'was my first time! EVER! to feel sick in the middle of a movie inside a movie theater O_O!! it was NOT pretty!! i wonder if the headache started from playing tennis too much after not playing in a long time >.<

coloring: FLAT vs NON-FLAT

i know this may sound stupid to some of u ... and some of u may even say that i shouldnt care about this ... but this has been bothering me for quite some time now .... so i thought i should bring it up to your attention.

as u guys may have known by now .... my digital coloring methods pretty much fall under the FLAT COLORS category. it has been like that for quite a long time. nowadays i have been trying to figure out how to digicolor things in the more painterly way (and see if it is suitable for me...). but to me, i found it to be quite difficult since i have been so used to using flat colors, or relatively flat colors in my illustrations. though i used to be taught on color theories in oil painting, but if u dont use it often .... u just forget about them >.
after seeing everyone else who r just SO GOOD at coloring in the painterly way, i am beginning to wonder if most people judge your coloring skills ... MOSTLY based on whether u can color your illustration in the painterly way or not. i have heard people say that if u can only color with flat colors, u r pretty much out of the league. but personally, i still think that some flat colored illustrations can convey a lot to the viewers than some painterly-looking work. there is still some beauty to flat-and-graphic-looking work (in this case ... graphic does NOT mean pornography @_@). for example, alphonse mucha.

.... so what do u guys think?? i am really curious to hear what u gotta say. so sorry for the random weird brainpoop >_<

i am not sure if many of u know that the malay and indonesian language has some similarities. both languages came from the same root, but later on each got developed with different pace.

so here is the literal translation of the ad (remember this is written in malay):

sesetengah benda lebih elok rata seperti wega = half of it is prettier when it is flat like wega

tv skrin biasa ternyata tewas oleh wega = regular tv screens actually is dead by wega

i am not saying this to make fun of the malay language, that is NOT my intention at all. i am just writing what i saw.

.... another routine that requires me to get up so damn early so i can make it to my japanese student's apartment by 10 am

yeah u got it! another computer/english teaching session! i have also been learning some japanese from her ... this has been a good language learning experience for both the student and teacher heheh!

to make this long entry into short ... here r the highlights:

- she took me out to lunch >_< ... but this time she invited her other friend who is also another japanese housewife whose husband is a white dude from australia over to the restaurant ... her name is newton kyoko .... and as u may know that in japanese custom ... a person is usually addressed by her/his last name ... so i said to sugihara san that i should address her NEWTON SAN ... HOWEVER here lies a problem ... in japanese NEWTON will be pronounced NYUUTON! and since the 'n' at the end of the name is somewhat silently pronounced ... therefore the name ends up being pronounced NYUUTO!

in japanese ... nyuuto means ... hmmm how can i say this without causing an uproar -__-;;;?? it means ... women's ch*st / b**bs / t*ts ... and other names used to address this body part >_<

therefore we decided to go by kyoko san!

- kyoko san can speak indonesian, english & OBVIOUSLY japanese ... but her australian husband can also speak some indonesian, english & JAPANESE!! he was an exchange student to indo years ago while he was younger and he has spent time in japan for some time so that is how he picked up his japanese. newton san can also speak some JAVANESE language (JAWA GO in japanese) ... and apparently people here r always amazed by foreigners (especially them whites) who can speak javanese .... why??

to answer your question ... here is how the analogy goes:

in indonesia = indonesian (the national language) = javanese (the other frequently-used dialect on our island JAVA) ....
in japan = japanese with tokyou ben/accent (the national accent ... dont know if i said this right -__-;; but if i were wrong please forgive me!) = kansai ben/accent (the other famous dialect of japan)

before moving on to the next highlight ... let me tell u the appearances these 2 japanese ladies have.

sugihara san ... my student ... is quite lady-like.
she is soft-spoken and wears make-up to a minim. she was in a pair of jeans and a sleveless white collared shirt with some frills ... conclusion: she is the womanly type.

kyoko san (a 34 year old who could pass being 20 -__-;;) .... is quite a tomboy.
she is not soft spoken, in fact her voice is low compared to her counterpart. she was in a baseball cap, has 3 piercings on each ear, hair tied up, a baby pink ROXY t-shirt (something them cali beach girls will wear!), jeans and high heels .... conclusion: she is quite the manly type.

- episode 1 ... kyoko san versus newton san : in spoken japanese
as an example: i will use the word 'SUGOI' which means 'COOL' in japanese!

the tomboy kyoko san would say: SUGE!! ---> with the manly speaking manner

newton san would say: SUGOI WA~! ---> with the womanly speaking manner

go figure .... i have never met newton san .... and i am sure he is not gay either -__-;;

the first one is a totally random collab work i did with mizu_ai from anindo ... the indonesian anime/manga fans forum ... out of nowhere ... on our table in a restaurant ... she asked me to draw something and the 1st thing that popped up in my head is .... a greek dude posing as ''the thinker' O_O?? dont ask why .... i cant explain it either haha ... and mizu_ai drew the hawaiian girl in hula decked up with coconuts on her .... she couldnt explain it either WHY the hula girl ....

this one was done with black brush pen & markers ^^!! she did a much better job at coloring than me ... but anyway ... enjoy enjoy hehe!

highlights of last night?

- made friends with 2 random US grad indo peeps at a japanese restaurant. how?? just came up & chat with them after overhearing their *loud* american accented conversation next to our dinner table! i told them how i am in desperate need to meet more US originated indo people and they were just shocked haha ... at least they were excited to meet up with me again!

oh and they were girls!

- made 3 more US grad indo friends after being invited into a little hangout with my mom's friend's brother's business partner's daughter who also graduated from US. without me knowing ... i got invited to hang out at a hooka (is this the correct way to spell the word??) bar >.<. and ever since i set foot here i NEVER knew such a place exists!!! oh i am so excited ... had my 1st strawberry hooka in .... FREAKIN' 3-4 years @_@!!!

it was the 5 of us ... 3 gals and 2 dudes!

one more thing ... when i saw one of the guys .... i was baffled by his resemblance with one of my virtual friends whom i met via ebay years ago. just saw his picture that is all. my virtual friend's name is andrew & obviously this guy's name .... is NOT andrew. but ... i was still shocked by how those 2 look like >.<. and yes i am an observant person :P!

went to a club & the club was such a joke ... and what is with jakarta people? i dont know if this is just for this club .... but last night we saw the dance floor empty most of the time ... instead them high-schoolers and their super super chicken-skinny girl companions just doing their thing at the bar or at their own table, hideout or wherever else they were at -___-;;;

oh one of the guys got me & others a shot of semi-orgasm.

i really gotta thanks my manhattanite buddies for introducing this super duper screwed up .... messed up .... with-super-weird-sense-of-humor anime series (look at the above!) ... i seriously cannot begin to describe how *strange* this anime is .... and btw strange is a MAJOR understatement (i can see sun and bossu nodding on the background hehe)!

after seeing this ... i am a changed person! i am so proud for being a fan of this show ... since NO ONE heard of it that is why hahaha! this anime i heard supposedly has attracted many underground fans ... therefore i wouldnt know if this series has been aired on TV before >_< ... but anyway .... i highly *HIGHLY* recommend this show! for those who have never seen comedic anime ... then u MUST watch this!

a break from work!

(flashback)

last week i was introduced to a 40-year old japanese (NO NOT A MAN!!) lady. her name is sugihara haruyo. the reason she was introduced to me by mom's friend was because she wanted to learn how to use photoshop and illustrator. we had our first meeting accompanied by mom and mom's friend, wada san, over a traditional indonesian lunch meal. she was really sweet indeed (and not to mention lady-like too ... the opposite of me haha :P!) ... during lunch it was decided that i was to come over to her apartment to teach her how to use the illustrator 10 & photoshop 7 on her laptop (with no tablet mind u). well not just THAT ... we were also willing to exchange our knowldege in our own language ... she in japanese and me in english and some indonesian O_O.

thought it would be weird teaching someone ... this would be my first experience but alas!

today rise and shine ... i arrived at her apartment at 10 am as promised. she waited for me at the lobby. was stuck in the morning traffic as usual, but i was surprised i got there on time. but anyway ... was brought into her apartment. we had tea and some snacks first. she showed me a golf magazine for my project but soon was distracted by the fact that she was very interested in seeing my website, the entire content O_O. we pretty much spent the next few hours discussing my stuff, i was surprised how flattered she was by my site. afterwards she was even more excited to learn photoshop and illustrator.

during this little 'lesson' she kept insisting in paying me with some money, but i insisted that it was not necessary. so instead she would give me japanese goods (anything at all), so today i got a bunch of japanese women's fashion magazine & some food from japan (cereal, candy & chocolate). then she took me to lunch to this japanese restaurant named basara ... never been there before, but seeing how many japanese people were inside there eating ... i could immediately identify this restaurant as an authentic japanese restaurant! over here there r so many unauthentic japanese restaurants ... actually wait ... not just japanese but any other restaurants -___-;; she paid for lunch & then we jet off to kinokuniya in plaza senayan (one of the nicest malls in the city ... and i dont even enjoy going to malls yuck haha >_<)

anyway ... we departed as soon as dad picked me up to go home ... she was really thankful that i was there for the entire day to accompany her. it had been a great experience indeed ... communicating in indonesian, english and japanese at once to each other ... like we could use japanese, english and indonesian words in ONE sentence haha :P

... so since i ended up not teaching too much of the computer programs yet ... she was willing to come to my house next thursday afternoon to see how i operate those programs. at least i will have an easier time since i will have my tablet. so this is it for now peeps and enjoy enjoy!

FINALLY! that little twirp ... he should've done this a looong time ago :P .... the never-ending project is *finally* (hopefully) gonna end ... so that me & everyone else involved can go on with their little lives & agendas .... i will cross my fingers really REALLY hard that he will NOT postpone the deadline NO MORE! i have had enough with the waiting heheh!

facial trip & bread-and-jam

the other day i went to my face doctor (is that the right term haha??) ... since she spotted many many unusually large pores on my face ... so she recommended me undergoing this treatment .... that turned me into a bread-and-jam!! basically she put this blue-gooey-jam-like thing on my face (it is COLD TOO!) and she left it there for 15 minutes .... she even used a spatula to spread the gel on my face ... just like how u spread the jam on a bread >_<

she put so much of it on my face until some of them got into my mouth ... AND IT TASTED SWEET O_O!!!

this reminds me of this story me and my crazy friend had back in manhattan ... my friend asked me to help her use this natural delapitory gel called NAD'S on her ... under arm -____-;;; ... but anyway that is not the point! the point is that in the infomercial for NAD'S .... it was so so funny how they mentioned that the product made from natural products is safe to be eaten!! out of nowhere we decided to taste it .... and it DID taste sweet like honey O__O!

haha thought this NAD's thing and the jam ... oh oops gel on my face tasted the same @___@ @___@

settling down + breeding = girls' purpose in life??

well guess it can somehow apply or won’t apply to some of u .... *depending* on which region of the world u r currently living in >__<

in the US .... the free country ... seems like the girls and women have more freedom to live their lives however they want ... especially when it comes to choosing career over marriage (perhaps with little or no people/family members chattering behind their backs on how "abnormal" their daughters, nieces, female cousins, or other female friends are for making the choices they made O_O!) .... BUT apparently in this planet called jakarta (or indonesia) ... the parents (older generations) STILL!! i repeat! STILL strongly believe in the equation above! just thinking about it can make the inside of my guts come out grrraaah!!

here is the event that happened a minute ago that really really ticked me off enough to write this angry angry ANGRY journal. i was looking through my friendster's list and mom out of nowhere saw all 77 of them and wondered who each of them is. there was nothing wrong with that until she said *this* (dont think i can forget this for a long time @_@):

"having many countless friends still won't matter! it is your lifetime partner that counts the most, he is the one who can take care of u for the rest of your life!!"

... a lot of thoughts went through my mind. ANGRY thoughts that made me thought of the truth of the equation above. i know perhaps some of u (or a lot of u) wonder ... what is it with me with going against settling down? is there anything wrong with that??

well here is my answer .... *generally* i have nothing against it. i am just still not ready to settle down yet, NOT NOW! i am still yet to find out how it feels like to be successful and famous. i am not ready to slow down & to give up this lifestyle yet. but apparently my family members think i am a loser for not having a full-time job AND meet new people ... so i can sooner or later SETTLE DOWN AND F*CKIN' BREED! i seriously begin to wonder if these people EVEN realize that there r many other possible ways of life the indo female species can have OTHER than breeding?? they seriously NEED TO wake up and smell the coffee! and if people ask me ... where do i see myself 10 years down the line?? HAH! for sure i will not be rotting away taking care of my kids ....

i just hate people who just keep pushing and pushing me so i can be like everyone else. i'd rather die being different!!

i know mom said what she said half-jokingly, but i still know deep down inside she wants me to quickly settle down and breed her some grandkids. even if she said she didnt mean it ... i know she was not being truthful, because otherwise ... those words would not come out of her mouth in the first place GAH! seriously, she just wants to be like every other mother whose daughters/sons have breeded them grandkids so she could play with them. kids/grandkids = family pride!! DAMN IT!

it is so lame looking at those mall-trotting-cookie-cutter-feminine girls around me. they really make me sick! and there is NOOO way i wanna be like one of them. sorry for the random comment but the reason this thought was brought up is ... because apparently mom wants me to be more feminine like other girls! YUCK YUCK YUCK!

think being in manhattan for almost a decade definitely has changed my point of views, and i am really thankful for that. the big apple has somehow turned me into more of an individualist, and i can feel it flowing in my veins and i dont think it will/can disappear anytime soon. sometimes u need to stay away from your own culture to notice its good qualities and flaws. forgive me for being THIS mad, i feel better that this is out in the air now. i realize this issue can apply to a lot of asian girls/women no matter which part of asia they r in. well let me tell u this! if u r feeling how i am feeling right now, i deeply sympathize with u! and welcome to the club heheh!

today i went to a cooking lesson with mom and grandma .... and one of the things we were shown on how to make was .... how to make chocolates! tiramisu, choco molding, choco modelling and others ..... and the chef said that there r 3 things u enjoy the most in life:

2. to be able to sneeze
3. chocolate @_@

EVERYBODY knows the reason people r getting married and what they r gonna do AFTER the wedding receptions ... so get off their backs already!! i mean now that u think about it .... wedding is just a fancy (and a lot of times a huge waste of money) celebration of 2 people who will sooner or later f**k each other's head off to breed more for the entire human race ... therefore making the planet earth more crowded @_@

been coming down with a nasty fever and flu!!

because heheh ..... on my desk has landed a package from the US and the content of it ... i immediately opened it and guess what i found??

it is my parakiss mangas & my GOLDEN GIRLS DVD!! i have been waiting for that dvd to get to me for the longest time .... HECK! even seeing golden girls available on dvd for the 1st time on the net was enough to kill me ... but finally the 3 disc-set 1st complete season dvd of my all-time favorite series has arrived in my hands safely!! thank u thank u chris chan for your kindness *hug hug hug*

i poppped the 1st dvd in ... and seeing all the episodes brought back memories when i was still back in college in manhattan, nyc .... i really really enjoyed it thoroughly ... i have been parted with golden girls for 2 years now and now i couldn't imagine how i could've survived 2 freakin' years here in indo *without* golden girls O_O!

anyway nuff of my babbles ... dont wanna bore u to death! so my mood is really really good now ... oh jen i wish i could go back in time and rewatch golden girls together again in lifetime channel ... the channel for women that is full of cheesy women-degrading shows ... luckily golden girls was NOT one of those shows >_< ... golden girls was aired everyday from 6-7 pm and 11-12 am!

Suddenly I got reminded of an article I read in a magazine in Jakarta. Was waiting for mom to pick me up, and there was nothing else to do to pass the time. The article was designed to give tips about metropolitan dating, though I think that term is very dodgy. The reporter interviewed a guy who had been given the nickname "Mr. P.F.", where P.F. stands for Professional Fiancee, since he had been engaged three times, and all 3 failed. Parts of the interview was something like this:

R: What do you think about giving gifts like CD, say, your own compilation of songs?
PF: No. Do you realise that it's against copyright to make your own compilation CD? If you want to give CD, find a 2nd hand CD, it's cheaper. And find something easy to listen to, like jazz compilation or such, so it'd be up to her how she wants to interpret the CD. Let her interpret the CD as she wishes, and play along with it.
R: How about going out to dinner?
PF: Offer her to go to dinner, but let her pick the place. This way she'd feel obliged to pay half the bill.
R: How about jewelry, like rings?
PF: If you're going to give rings, find one with a model that's good enough to withstand the trend and will never be outdated. So if things fall apart and she returns the ring to you, you can use it for the next girl.

..............my opinion is...... there's calculating, and then there's shamelessness.
